ACCUSED CONVICTED FOR POSSESSION OF STOLEN PROPERTY

The accused Samuel Msimango 36, appeared before Kroonstad Magistrates Court on Monday 14, where he pleaded guilty and was sentenced for possession of stolen copper cable.

His conviction originates from an incident that took place on 26 October 2022.

It was reported that Kroonstad SAPS High Way Patrol became suspicious of a vehicle which was driving towards the northern direction on the N1 road.

The police stopped the vehicle and searched it.

During the search, police discovered two bundles of copper cables.

The suspect was arrested for possession of suspected stolen property and the copper cable was identified as the property of Transnet to the value of R852 799,24.

The matter was reported to the Hawks' Serious Organised Crime Investigation team based in Welkom for further investigation culminating in the conviction of the accused.

The court sentenced Msimango to four years imprisonment wholly suspended for five years.
