BUS AND TRUCK COLLISION CLAIM 10 LIVES

A fatal crash occurred on the N6, approximately 15 km south of Reddersburg towards Smithfield, involving a City to City bus with 33 passengers that collided with a truck.

The incident has resulted in a significant number of casualties, with over 31 injuries reported and a death toll that has risen to 10 confirmed fatalities, although this number may still be unconfirmed.

A total road closure is in effect, and alternative routes have been provided to divert traffic.


In a separate incident, on Monday 3, police recovered bodies of eight people whose vehicle was reportedly swept by strong water currents in Hellbron.

On Sunday 2, four people lost their lives in Warden following a car accident.

Free State province Premier Letsoha-Mathae conveyed condolences to the bereaved families.

"I am mortified to learn about the loss of lives from the three incidents. Road safety remains a priority and as government, we are intensifying our efforts to burb road fatalities. These tragic incidents serve as a painful reminder of the job at hand, but also intensity our road safety awareness campaigns.

On behalf of the Free State Provincial Government and the people of our province, I would like to extend our condolences to all the affected families during this difficult period. We also wish the injured a speedy recovery", said Premier Letsoha-Mathae.
