BUSINESSMAN AND COMPANY SENTENCED FOR TAX FRAUD

Businessman Paul Rafoneke 36, and his company Setsabelo Trading were found guilty and sentenced for contravening the Tax Administration Act 28 of 2011.

The sentencing was handed on Tuesday 23, by the Bloemfontein Regional Court.

Members of Bloemfontein Serious Commercial Crime Investugation served subpoenas on the accused in 2019 following a South African Revenue Service (SARS) report about alleged submissions of false tax returns.

As a result of fraudulent actions by the accused, SARS counted losses over R800 000 between 2012 and 2016.

Rafoneke was sentenced to seven years imprisonment, wholly suspended for five years on condition that he repays SARS by July 2029.

Setsabelo Trading was sentenced to a fine of R100 000, wholly suspended for five years.
