DUO ARRESTED FOR FRAUDULENT LICENSING OF MOTOR VEHICLES

Two suspects aged 41 and 54 were arrested on Friday 12, in Welkom and Odendaalsrus. The arrest was made by members of the Hawks' Serious Corruption Investigation team based in Welkom together with Bloemfontein Digital Forensic Investigation (DFI) as well as the Local Criminal Record Centre (LCRC) based in Welkom and Odendaalsrus.

Their arrests came after information was received during 2022, by the Hawks about suspects involved in fraudulent activities related to licensing of motor vehicles.

In the first incident, it is alleged that an Admin Cleck 41, who was based at Welkom Traffic Department at the time of the incident, was providing roadworthy motor vehicle certificates without the vehicles undergoing any testing processes.

In another incident, information was received about a 54-year-old suspect, who is a civilian, who was allegedly selling fraudulent vehicle license discs to members of the public.

The suspect was operating from his residence in Thabong.

Information was followed up by the Hawks in both incidents since 2022.

Thorough investigation was conducted which led to the arrest of the suspects.

The suspects are expected appeared before the Welkom Magistrates Court today (Monday), facing charges of fraud and corruption.
