DUO ARRESTED FOR MURDER OF THEIR ACCOMPLICE

Two accused, Levy Alex Sambo (38) and a Malawian national Elijiah Eleson Kakafodya (31) were arrested by the Hawks' Serious Organised Crime Investigation on Monday 31, in connection with a murder case.

On 14 June 2022, security personnel chased suspects who were seen stealing fuel at a Transnet pipe near Vrede.

During the chase, a shot was allegedly fired by the suspects. Later as the security officers returned to the crime scene, they discovered the body of an unknown male with a gunshot wound.

Two suspects, Sambo and Kafodya, were arrested following an investigation into the theft.

They were charged for theft and damage to infrastructure.

They made numerous court appearances before it was discovered that the other person who was found dead at the crime scene died as a result of a shot fired by the suspects.

Sambo and Kafodya, who have been in custody since their initial arrest, are expected to appear in the Vrede Regional Court on 26 May 2025 for murder.
