The accused, Molefi Nephthali Tloome 49 and Eguleme Dee Ebeye 53, appeared before the Bloemfontein Magistrates Court on Thursday 11, where they both faced a charge of contravening the Tax Administration Act 28 of 2011.
A preliminary probe by the South African Revenue Service (SARS) uncovered the suspects' alleged fraudulent activities where they submitted false Value Added Tax (VAT) 201 returns.
As a result of the fraudulent activities, SARS was prejudiced and suffered a total loss of more than R1. 2 million.

The matter was then reported to the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team based in Bloemfontein for further investigation culminating in the arrest of the suspects on Thursday, 11 July 2024 and their first appearance in court.
The case against Tloome and Ebeye has been postponed to 02 August. Tloome was granted R1500 bail and Ebeye was granted R2500 bail.
