Road Accident claims lives of six learners

A school bus carrying about 58 learners from an all-girls sport event on the R70 road between Ventersburg and Senekal, overturned and claimed lives of six (6) learners on Tuesday, 06.

Premier of the Free State Mxolisi Dukwana, reiterated that he is saddened to learn of such tragic news just as the province was still celebrating their victory after claiming their position one as a tribute to the late Education MEC Tate Makgoe.

Six learners were sadly declared dead on the scene, 40 survived with minor injuries, 8 had moderate injuries, with four sustaining severe injuries.

They were on the way from an outdoor event in Moolmanshoek near Rosendal to Riebeeckstad in Welkom.

“This tragedy struck as we were celebrating the success of the matric class of 2023. The deaths of those souls has robbed us of the future of our province. Words fail me and I can only imagine what the families are going through. I’d like to express my profound condolences to the bereaved families and to also wish the injured a speedy recovery”, said Premier Dukwane.

Patients were transported to various hospitals in Welkom and Senegal, were they are making a recovery.
