Zakia Sekgoane Tamane 27, appeared before the Sasolburg Magistrates Court today Wednesday 20, where he faced a charge of business robbery.

It is alleged that on 11 November 2024 at about 23:40, two security officials were on duty at a warehouse in Sasolburg when they were attacked by a group of suspects who were wearing balaclavas.

The suspects tied the security officials with cables and forced them into a storeroom. They then entered the warehouse and loaded three drums of copper cable to the total value of R1.9 million.

Members of Sasolburg Visible Policing, the detectives, and Local Criminal Record Center (LCRC) attended the crime scene. The case was registered and handed over to the Hawks' Serious Organised Crime Investigation team based in Sasolburg for further investigation, culminating in the arrest of the suspect at his workplace on 18 November 2024.

Although the stolen copper is not yet recovered, investigators are following leads to trace the suspects.

The case against Zakia Sekgoane Tamane has been postponed to Wednesday 27, for formal bail application.
