Ward 7 councillor of the ANC Thabiso Emmanuel Nai, at Zastron Matlakeng, initiated a gathering where elderly people were gathered to celebrate the birthday of Nelson Mandela.

Nai prioritized elderly people for this year's Madiba celebration with a special lunch.

The councillor noted that the engagement was to celebrate the life of Madiba and also remind elderly people that they are appreciated and loved.

Mohokare Municipality is under the leadership of Mayor Zingisa Mgauli, who was absent at the celebratory.

Former councillor of ward 7 Chabedi Phatsoane was also present to celebrate with the elders.

He said that this day signifies the life that was lived by Nelson Mandela.

Phatsoane also reiterated that elderly people should not be forgotten and this day should remind our elderly that they are loved and appreciated.

Nai, applauded and welcomed the elderly people that came in numbers to commemorate the memory and life of Madiba.

He urged pensioners using Sassa cards to urgently visit their nearest branch to switch their payments methods since Sassa cards are soon to expire.

"Drastic changes in terms of water supply, particularly in areas that have been experiencing severe drought for years will soon be seen by residents. Our people will be with water from now on", said Nai.

He also noted that government has halted the process of building new RDP houses, instead they'll focus on rebuilding incomplete structures and houses.

Residents of Zastron will see the allocation of about 4200 sites in a new location which will be known as Extension 11.

The sites relocation process will commence in three phases, which will see half of the sites being allocated in the first phase and the other half will follow on the second and third phase.

Councillor Nai also reiterated that he's taking this opportunity to engage with elderly people about services to update those that cannot attend community meetings.

Elderly people engaged with their councillor and were able to take out their grievances.

The event was lovely as elderly people were treated with goodies and celebrated the life of their icon.
