The newly appointed interim mayor of Mohokare Local Municipality Teboho Mochechepa invited local contractors to a meet-and-greet session on Monday, 23.
The session started at Rouxville and concluded at Zastron.
The session aimed to establish relations, source wisdom, and comprehensive planning towards local economic development, by engaging with local contractors and listening to their grievances.
Contractors raised several important issues ranging from preferential procurement especially when it comes to local business opportunities, provided by the municipality and certain departments.
The majority of local contractors pleaded with the municipality to ensure there were no late payments for service rendered and clear classification requirements for job opportunities.
The mayor encouraged local contractors to develop themselves through ethical practices of business by honouring their obligations with entities like SARS, CIBD and other guiding principles of business.
A representative from the municipal supply chain gave a brief lesson on the documentation required from contractors to be deemed compliant and developed.
The mayor has committed to maintaining and ensuring contractor development and the entire business fraternity.
