Premier of the Free State Province Mxolisi Dukwana delivered the State of the Province Address (SOPA) delivered at the Phuthaditjhaba Multi-purpose Centre on Thursday 29.
The day also marked the official opening of the Free State Legislature under the leadership of speaker Ntombizanele Sifuba.
Dukwana provided an insightful overview of the progress and future outlook for the Free State, as the country celebrates 30 years of democracy.
He highlighted the province’s achievements in overcoming the challenges of unemployment, poverty, and inequality. With an emphasis on economic recovery, job creation, and infrastructure development, the Premier noted a promising increase in the provincial GDP and a decrease in unemployment rates.
Significant strides in education, healthcare, and public works, with the creation of numerous job opportunities through the Expanded Public Works Programme and the Presidential Employment Stimulus were also outlined in the address.
Dukwana also noted the efforts to champion a green revolution and the substantial growth in the agricultural sector, alongside initiatives to boost energy security and infrastructure development.
The Premier’s commitment to improving the lives of the Free State’s residents was evident through detailed plans for enhancing service delivery, supporting SMMEs, and revitalizing the tourism sector. Furthermore, the address did not shy away from addressing the urgent need to combat crime and enhance public safety in the province.
Dukwana's vision for continued growth and development serves as a beacon of hope and a call to action for all stakeholders to contribute towards the province’s prosperity.
This year’s SOPA marks a significant milestone in the Free State’s journey towards a brighter, more inclusive future.
The SOPA's address comes just after the premier had addressed investors at the Free State Investment Conference, held at the UFS Centenary Complex on Tuesday, 27.
