Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Ronwen Williams makes a save during the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) 2024 third place play-off football match between South Africa and Democratic Republic of Congo at Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium in Abidjan on Saturday night.

Still reeling from their devastating loss to Nigeria in the semi-finals via penalties, Bafana faced DR Congo, who had suffered a 1-0 defeat to hosts Ivory Coast.

Following a goalless 90 minutes, the match proceeded directly to a penalty shootout. Teboho Mokoena missed Bafana's first penalty, captain Ronwen Williams emerged as the hero once again by saving two penalties which led to their victory to secured a bronze medal.

Nigeria will face the hosts Ivory Coast for the final match tonight.
